After a great deal of discussion with my wife, and thought, I am going to hold off on a short-term goal of entering my first competition. I am going to focus first on getting my body in the shape it needs to be and I can achieve to compete. My longer term goal is to enter my first competition. However, this year I want to watch, learn, and observe as much as possible and immerse myself in the fitness and competition world so that I am well prepared to reach that longer term goal. I am seeking some assistance to help refine my diet and workouts to achieve this. I guess my overall goal would be to get as lean as possible (hopefully 8%) in 2010 and MAINTAIN that, not including a bulk if I decide to do one.

My other goal is to set an example for my family and to encourage and strengthen my wife to pursue a healthy lifestyle for herself.
You're already on the right Path Matt, i can promise you that! Hopefully your wife will pursue the healthier lifestyle, so the two of you together can live long and healthier than ever!
My new year's resolution is to be a better husband and daddy. My second resolution is to win my class in my next show.
Garrett...I definitely want to follow your progress on your journey to win your class at your next show.

We are all striving to be better husbands and fathers. I think we learn from each other and encourage each other both in fitness and in life.

I look forward to 2010.
yo tambien Matt, yo tambien!
I am currently 31 weeks pregnant, and although I don't think I've gained too much weight, I've definitely become lazy! I'm planning to do prenatal yoga for the next few weeks, and then start working out as soon as I get the Dr's okay after the birth. I'd like to compete in the long term, but I don't know if this is reasonable for 2010. I eventually lost the weight and got back into shape after my first 2 kids, but it was very gradual (like, a year or longer!) I've heard of women competing 6 and 7 months after having a child, but I'd like to know if this is safe. I mean, is it safe to diet like a competitor while breastfeeding? I've been wondering this for a while, so I'm hoping someone out here will know. Thanks!
COMPETE! Of course, to compete is my first response, but when i really stop and think about what competing means to me, it is so much more indepth than just stepping on stage. It requires me to focus on being more prepared, organized, consistent and diciplined in all that i do this upcoming year. It forces me to strive for "MY BEST ME"...something i have either been unaware of or feared my entire life! To be the best, in my eyes = finding balance with my health, family, work and spiritual life. Now, I know that realistically, there will always be a constant struggle to find this kind of balance, but as my favorite quote states..."If you don't have a dream, life will be about your problems"...and who really likes to focus on their problems!?!? With all that being said...lol...i will start my new year by making appointments with myself each day, week and month to log my progress through a blog, video series and maybe a few pics. So for all of you out there who are searching to be the "BEST YOU"..Good-bye 2009 and HELLO 2010!!!
Maria...awesome post. It truly is about striving to be the best you can be in all aspects of your life, every day. I look forward to seeing your progress.

Oh...and by the way...I met you husband today and he is an awesome guy. I look forward to working with him more and I look forward to meeting you at a mixer.

Best wishes on a successful 2010.
My new year's resolutions are to be a better Christian and to get stronger and bigger.
I hear ya Ben! Walking with the Lord is a necessity huh?
hmmm. Mine, is just to get into better shape for 2010 than I was in 09. and not be afraid to ask others for help and advice, I think that has been a big stumbling block in the past. Joining this site and reading the different profiles and seeing some of the hard work you guys do on here helps with the inspiration and the motivation to try harder. Everyone has obstacles, and Im trying to get over mine. I just gotta keep moving forward.
Well, you've found the right site to help with that brother!
