Sometimes I'm out of certain foods (Oats, Rice cakes, etc.) and use other foods to hit my numbers, usually post work out. For example, I'll have my whey protein and then to get my carbs I'll have a pack of pop tarts. I guess this goes back to the age old question of is a calorie a calorie no matter what food it is, or does the actual food that you use to hit your numbers make an overall impact on body composition?

Just to clarify, lets say I need 60g of carbs. Does it make a difference if it's wheat bread, oatmeal, pop tarts or fruity pebbles as long as the end result is 60g of carbs and I'm hitting my numbers?

I could be wrong, but an insulin spike after a workout is a good thing so if you're gonna have pop tarts, seems like that'd be ok. I wouldn't have them everyday... Plus, I don't know how much fat is in them & what kind of role that plays either. I'd just follow them up with a solid, balanced, healthy meal within an hour or so. The issue is that the pop tarts will spike your insulin, which you want after a workout, but they won't sustain you so you have to follow it up with a complex carb of some kind.
