Weight Gainers... So many too choose from. What to consider???

Can those of you 'hard gainers' out there who are taking a weight gainer now or have in the past share some of your insight and recommendations as to what product you prefer, where you have seen the greatest gains and what can/should be expected during this period?

I have been doing some research and found the following focus points, however am still not convinced which product to invest in.

Things to be considered:

- Quality of Ingredient

- Carb/protein/fat ratio desired

- Price per pound of gainer

- Taste reviews

- Oddly enough I have found very few comments that relate to what the actual goal of the individual is...

Universal Real Gains
I really like MHP's "Up Your Mass."

- Quality of Ingredient- It has a good blend of different proteins including Casein, Soy, and Whey. Its carbs are complex which are derived from oats, and its fats are from good sources such as CLA, evening primrose, and flaxseed.

- Carb/protein/fat ratio desired- Most weight gain proteins will throw in a cup of sugar(per serving) and put 150g of carbs on the label so they can say you will gain 100 pounds of lean muscle mass in a day...or FAT(exaggerated of course but you get my point). But the truth is that if you are eating your 8 meals a day(especially your intra, post and post post workout meal) with a good amount of carbs then your carb stores are being replenished before depleting again at tomorrows work out. They have a 45%carb/35%protein/20%fat which for me, an avg hardgainer, has worked well for my goal of putting on lean muscle mass while staying at a relatively low BF.

- Price per pound of gainer-This one is tricky bc working at a Vitamin Shoppe in Memorial I get 25% off which brings one tub, 17 servings of this stuff, to $30. On the shelf at our store it is 39.99 which is reasonable when comparing to other weight gainers out there; and I'm sure with a little bit of research online and the old BB trick of buying in bulk you could find it even cheaper.

- Taste reviews-I couldn't wait to get to this part! Up Your Mass comes in 3 flavors: Fudge Brownie, Cookies and Cream, and you guessed it.. good 'ol Vanilla. Now working at a supplement shop I have had both the benefit and unfortune of tasting almost every protein out there, and there is rarely a protein shake I will sip on and bask in the rich flavors of protein heaven. But! Up Your Mass Fudge Brownie is one such protein. Try it once and you will feel like your cheating on your "steady" protein tub on top of the fridge. As for the other two flavors they are also good but don't come close to my chocolate lover.

Finally I will sum this up with the now coined, but oh so true, phrase of every "bodybuilding advice giver": Everyones body is different and what works for others may not work for you. But next time your at your local supplement shop and want to get a little variety in your life I recommend MHP's Up Your Mass. (5 stars)

P.S. Charlie you looked great at this years Lonestar Event in May. I look forward to being up there on stage with you next year! Take care and stay strong!

None. Eat more and healthier lol.
at the end of the day all weight gainers are just food...the best way to gain is to rest (a lot) between workouts if you are doing 12-16 sets on any body-part i would suggest six days minimum recovery time
respectivly and you will grow.. when i did compete i used "russian bear" this has the best branched & medium chain aminos & triglycerides.. you can also use your recovery time to work on your fast-twitch muscle groups(that'll keep that desired pump alive) when you work-out make sure you keep your reps. between 12-15..i hope this is helpfull..let me know how it works for you
eat healty thats it....
I used "serious mass" by on..chocolate flavor. It helped me gain mass since it was hard for me to eat a lot of calories all the time throughout the day. If u have the time, I would say just eat slightly more than your daily calorie intake , but if you have no time like me due to a busy schedule, a weight gainer supplement is a good alternative.
