2011 race schedule

My first race of the season was 1/23/11. The Frost yer Fanny Duathlon at bear creek park. I came in slightly less confident than usual since I was coming off a back and hip injury (dec 10'), which was followed by catching a nasty flu bug two weeks later.

No excuses right? Exactly right. I still trained as hard as my body let me and reduced volume to allow for recovery. Race day came and temperatures were mild around 48f. The weather leading up to the event had been colder with lows in the 29-36f range. The 40s were welcomed.

So I ran ok, granted I had not raced a full event since April 10', bike was about same pace as year before which was due to a dramatic decrease in bike volume since the half iron bike stint I raced in Nov 10'. Too much work and not enough riding, still the 21.6 mph average speed for a tight and twisty 15 miler was so-so.

My final run was in 7:28 per mile, Not bad. After a 3 mi run, 15 mi bike, 2 mi run I stopped the clock in 1:19:48. Good enough to win my class by nearly 02:00. I have some work to do but I feel my base is really strong this year. I plan my season so I peak in late summer events when racing schedule is the heaviest.
