Ever since the devastating earthquake occured in Haiti, Jan. 12th, I have not been abe to stop thinking about the people stranded there with no food, no water, no medical attention and especially the poor little babies and children:(  Each day I pray for these people and think about how I can do my part...it is heartbreaking to know that this is going on in the world and as I sit in the comfort of my desk at work, I stop complaining about how I wish I had this or I wish I had that and truly appreciate even the littlest of what God has provided me with (that includes the electricity in our building, water,etc....).  I have even been training so hard, that when I feel like giving up I think of how God has blessed me with the health and strength to challenge myself and when I think about the people in Haiti, I go harder!!!  I looked into my church website (Houston 1st baptist) and learned about several people at our church, all whom I have yet to meet, that are dealing with the Haiti catastrophe in some way through relatives and/or friends...please check out the link below and you can view a news video about one of the church's couples and their efforts to make a change....there is so much help needed...and prayers count!!!

Maria! Thanks for posting this! It reminded me of a news segment I saw that put it in perspective for me.

The Sunday after the quake, they held church services all over Port-au-Prince. That about said it all for me. We're in this world, but don't need to be of this world. When we have our compasses pointed in the right direction, all the random things we in the land of plenty that tend to get us down become meaningless! The Haitians need our love and support right now in many forms, financially, spiritually, emotionally, etc. But in the one story I caught, they taught me something. God bless Haiti!
That is so true Steve!.."We are in this world, but don't need to be of this world!"

That statement makes me think of a scripture in Ephesians 4:17-18...the two kind of work together....

"Live no longer as the heathen do, for they are hopelessly confused. 18 Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him."

Which world we live in is not an option:)...but we do have the freedom to choose whether we want to live like the heathen, or confused, whom selfishly focus on worldy desires (like material things, etc.), OR to live for God, who graciously gives us the compassion that is needed to focus on helping others less fortunate.

thanks for sharing! MT
