Roger replied to Lucas G. Irwin's discussion RANT - "Over-Isolation"
"As someone who has lifted heavy his whole life, I think heavy is the way to go but realize I am not a bodybuilder, only an old powerlifter. Heavy weights give you a much better base and when I decide to go light for awhile it does not take long to…"

Roger replied to Kai's discussion Gym Etiquette 101
"Gym etiquette is a pet peeve of mine, from sitting on the bench talking on your cell phone while people are waiting to asking my spotter a question while he is spotting me, he better be concentrating on my lift, and last but not least just be polite…"

Roger replied to Daniel Chavez's discussion Front Squats v. Back Squats
"Front squats require good technique and are used by Olympic lifters. Keep the back straight and dont lean forward. I prefer back squats because I can lift more and they are more comfortable and allow me to lift more."

Roger replied to Adam Schiffer's discussion Rest Pause
"This routine was popular many years ago. It is effective for a quick change of routines and to help get over a sticking point but is hard to stay with for very long."

Profile Information

What is your REAL story? Do you compete? Do you wish to compete? Are you on a transformation journey? Website??
I still compete in PL meets. My first meet was an Olympic Lifting meet, PL didn't exist, in 1963. My goal now is to keep working out as long as possible.
My latest meet I benched 402lbs at 198lbs, July 2008 which was and still is an American record in 60-69 age group.
Philosophies and Beliefs:
Work hard but I have to stay injury free because of the length of time it takes to recover at my age. Goals change as you age but I still strive to be better than others in my age group.
Words of Advice to REAL competitors and those on REAL transformation journeys:
Keep working
Who do you look up to in the fitness industry?
Bill Pearl and El Darden (he was responsible for getting me into competitve lifting)
