Does anyone truly understand Bodybuilding anymore?

I train at a big chain gym (I would prefer a Gold's but there is not one near me) so I meet all kinds of people while working out. Just about every time I tell someone that I am natural and that I am a vegetarian they say I'll never have any "substance" (muscle) on my bones unless I eat meat and take pro hormones. It seems to me that people today think muscle size is the only thing that makes a Bodybuilder. Most of these guys have 18" or 19" arms but they also have 20" thighs and 15" calves. I will still hold out hope that someday people will once again understand what a physique is and strive to have them. And I will never give up on Bodybuilding, even if I do complain about it sometimes. Thank you all for reading this!

Thanks Cory. That is exactly why I do not eat meat, all the hormones and other junk put into the animals. Eating the occasional steak probably wont have a negative impact on your health but it's easier for me to just stay away all together.

I'll be the one to second that, Ben. I'm totally with you on the vegetarian way of life. I'm not 100% meat free yet (some days I am), but I am getting there; twice a week is usually my limit. Talk about the ultimate discipline--it's rough! From the artifical growth harmones, animal farming practices, and so forth, the health implications of consuming animal flesh this day in age is enough to rattle a few nerves--sometimes I'd almost rather starve than sink my teeth into animal flesh. The facts surrounding animal protein of today versus animal protein of, say, 100 years ago are astounding. It's all big industry hogwash! I say keep doing what you're doing and bless those who presecute you, bro.

Thanks Cody I appreciate that and agree fully. I've been vegetarian for a year and a half and I am not the biggest guy in the world but I have some muscle. From what I understand there is nothing in meat that can not be found in other food sources. I have no problem with people eating meat at all, for me it's not a moral issue it's for health reasons.

You can be a vegetarian and still put on muscle. Beans and Lentils are very good sources of protein. I have a friend who is a vegetarian and he has a great physique. Most of the people you run into at the gym don't really know what they are talking about. They just like to be heard I guess you could say.
